I Want to Ride My Bicycle Around These Cities
I believe that one of the best ways to see a new city is by bike. It’s fun, it’s faster than walking and it keeps you fit!
You can choose to explore the city independently; on your own or with your travel companions. Or you can join an organised bike tour where you will learn about the city from an experienced tour guide and meet lots of fellow cycle enthusiasts.
On my travel agenda for 2015, I plan to explore the following cities on two wheels:
Amsterdam
Amsterdam is well-known for its love and commitment to cycling. In fact, it’s considered the most bike-friendly city in the world! Visiting Amsterdam without riding a bicycle is like going to Pisa and not seeing the leaning tower.
The city is as flat as a pancake which means it’s perfect for all levels of cyclist. There are bike routes throughout the city which makes for a very comfortable and safe riding experience. I’ve read that there are bike rental stores all over Amsterdam that offer a variety of push bikes including conventional, vintage, fat tire and electric.
This city is clearly a cyclists paradise. I’ve already started looking into apartments in Amsterdam as I’m very keen to start exploring this wonderful city on two wheels.
Barcelona
One of the main reasons that so many people visit the city of Barcelona each year is its architecture. Therefore, the best place to view these must-see sights is from the streets. There are many bicycle tours operating in the city some of which are general, and others focus on a particular interest such as art, food or nature.
Once I’ve taken an organised tour of the city, I can continue to explore this incredible city on two wheels. The central part of the city is circled by one continuous bicycle lane, making it really easy and enjoyable to see the whole of the city. Along the way, there are about 100 places where you can drop off and pick up your hired bike. So stopping off for a bite to eat or to visit a museum is made simple and safe.
London
London is such a varied and vibrant city. However, I really dislike travelling around this city by public transport. It’s just so busy, claustrophobic, and it tends to make me feel shaky and stressed. I think you can get a much more pleasant experience if you travel by bike.
The terrain in London is a combination of up, down and flat which adds a bit of interest and variety into your ride. I am going to wait for the summer months and spend my time in London cycling between the beautiful parks that are scattered throughout this city.
There are so many destinations around the world that are begging to be explored by bike. I’ve already bought my [amazon template=product&asin=B00FNVBS5C] and I’m super excited to use it! I hope you will join me in jumping on two wheels and discovering a whole new side to these and many more bicycle-friendly cities around the world.
