5 Simple Ways to Achieve Career Happiness (It’s Not Rocket Science)

It doesn’t matter if you are 25-years-old or 55-years-old; you can still achieve an amazing life that sets your soul on fire and fills you up with a level of happiness that makes you excited to get up in the morning. And, even better, you don’t need permission from anyone else to reach this sense of empowerment. You can do it all by yourself.

Here are five  actions you can do right now to prepare yourself for your best life:

1. Understand Your Strengths

Knowing who you are gives you more confidence and clarity. You’re more likely to take advantage of opportunities that align with the essence of who you are. If you haven’t unraveled what career happiness means to you, pay attention to the signs. Start journaling, reflecting, meditating, and spending time with yourself. Document your greatest moments of joy and what activities you thrive in. Check out Strength Finders and 16 personalities to discover things about yourself that you never gave a thought about.

2. Build Your Confidence

You can’t be completely happy if your confidence is tarnished. A confident professional has the courage to make decisions that others only dream about.

Boost your confidence by affirming yourself, sharing frequent moments of gratitude, and acknowledging your accomplishments. Waking up on time can be a huge accomplishment when you stayed up all night to finish a major project. Start writing love letters to yourself and read them out loud. Write and display post-it notes around the house that affirm who you are becoming. For example, if you want to be an author, write about being a New York Times Best Selling Author and how excited you are to sell your books at the next conference.

3. Audit Your Professional Circle

It’s time to be honest with yourself and look around you. You can’t expect to feel like happy Hannah if jealous Jennifer is always by your desk tearing down your dreams of a promotion. What’s worse is when you invite her to lunch the next day to obtain career advice. Didn’t she just receive a mediocre performance review? Do yourself a favor and stop giving attention to people and situations that don’t serve your higher purpose.

Jim Rohn once said that you are the average of the five people that you spend the most time with. What kind of people do you need in your social circle in order to achieve your goals? Seek them out. Where do those types of people congregate? Are they at conferences, social media events, or certain networking events? Find your professional tribe and hold on to them tightly.

4. Stimulate Your Brain Power

Comfort is the enemy of achievement and the best friend of mediocrity. If you want to keep tapping into unexposed pieces of your potential, you must continue stretching your mind. What opportunities have you always been curious about?

If you’ve been thinking about creating a new application, invest in a coding course. Maybe the thought of learning a new language keeps crossing your mind; check out language courses offered by Don Quijote or learn a new language from your home by downloading Duolingo app.

5. Break Some Patterns

Stop doing the same thing every day if you want to get different results. You wake up at the same time, catch the same train to work, and perform the same activities during lunch; no wonder you are bored out of your mind and screaming for change.

Patterns work wonders for increasing your productivity, but that’s not what you are trying to work on. You are looking for some confidence boosting tactics that will get you out of your rut. Break the pattern in an extreme way. Book a trip next weekend to a place where you have never been before. Do something you never thought you would do. Spice up your life a little and suddenly making that new career move isn’t as scary as you thought it would be.
