Outdoor Adventures You Can Have This Winter
It’s cold out already. Every time you look up, all you can see are grey clouds. Whenever you venture outside, you put on at least four layers, along with a hat, scarf and gloves. And don’t forget the snow-defying, rain-resistant boots you have that always look 2 sizes too big. Seriously, all you want to do is get into your warm PJs, grab a steaming mug of cocoa and snooze on the sofa. Welcome to winter.
Okay, we all need to lighten up. Winter’s tough enough without everybody moping around and avoiding the outdoors at all costs. Here’s some pretty amazing adventures you can have during the winter.
Get Skating
I wouldn’t recommend waiting for a lake to freeze over, but if you like to try something different and festive, you can plan to go ice skating with some friends. Look up your local ice skating rink and see what events they have on this winter. Ice rinks usually do really fun discos or fancy dress nights which you can book for a group of you and your friends to go to. Make sure you prepare for it properly and it’ll be the best reason you’ve found to fall over on ice all season
Visit Some Christmas Markets
Mostly based on the original German markets, Christmas markets are an excellent way to get into the Christmas spirit. Wander round at your leisure to take in all the sights that these picturesque market stalls offer. Feeling the cold? Grab a mug of hot chocolate to keep you going as you wander round this winter wonderland. Not only is this an amazing day out, these markets usually sell tasty, traditional German food. They’re also an awesome place to find unusual, unique gifts for your family and friends. Find out where your closest market is using this website.
Go For A Nature Walk
Get those huge boots on and go for a stroll! Winter may be cold but it is truly beautiful. Make sure you experience all its charm by heading to your local park or nature reserve and wandering aimlessly. It’s great exercise and walking has so many benefits for your mental and physical wellbeing.
This is a great activity for kids too. Before you go, prepare a checklist of things they can spot on your walk and make a note of them as you walk around. Flowers, birds, pine cones and different types of trees are good things to look for. Reward everybody afterwards with a warm snack whilst the kids draw pictures of what they saw.
Winter may seem dreary, cold and wet. In fact, it’s an amazingly beautiful time of year that you should definitely explore! Have you got any tips for things to do this winter? Let me know what you get up to.
