5 Alternative Careers for People Sick of the 9-5 Grind
Lifestyle is all about comfort and enjoyable living. Most people, at some point or another, wish to have a convenient and flexible career. The traditional 9-to-5 office job may be the default career choice in modern society, but it isn’t always the best option for everyone. If you’re tired of the rat race and looking for a change of pace, look at this list of viable alternative careers with less rigid schedules.
Tutoring
Are you a math whiz? Or a writing guru? If you have aptitude in these or other lucrative skills and a willingness to teach them, tutoring may be the job for you. Tutors may work for an established agency, at a tutoring facility, or through individual consultations garnered by word of mouth. Tutoring appointment sessions range from 30 minutes to several hours, and you’ll probably see most of your clients in the evening, making this an excellent career choice for late risers.
Personal Trainer
Personal training could be a good fit if you’re in good shape and want to help others improve their health and fitness. Although personal trainers frequently work in gyms, they can also work with clients at home, outdoors, or anywhere else convenient. If you’re not afraid of the camera, consider starting an online exercise channel — if nothing else, it’s a great way to gain exposure and build your client base.
Virtual Assistant
The job functions of a virtual executive assistant lend themselves to a non-traditional work schedule. Virtual assistants provide the same administrative support as in-person assistants, such as scheduling appointments, answering emails, and ensuring the business’s inventory is fully stocked, but from the comfort of their own home (or home office). While some companies prefer a full-time, on-site executive assistant, others may only require an assistant part-time with remote work flexibility.
Cruise Ship Worker
A beautiful view from the window next to your cubicle isn’t much of a perk, but a cruise ship job is essentially paid travel. If your friends rave about your cooking, apply for a job in the ship’s kitchen. If you’re the go-to person for wine or whiskey recommendations, you could make a good bartender or bar manager.
