What You Can Do With an Economics Degree

A lot of people don’t know this, but the economics degree is one of the most flexible and useful degrees these days.

If you or someone you know is having a hard time deciding on what degree to take, an economics degree is a very good career track. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects a growth in employment in the economics industry over the next ten years.

Economics is the study of how people work with their resources. This includes the tangible and intangible. The study of economics trains students to gain foresight and see the results of the behavior of an individual or a collective towards their resources, and how it affects their goals, products, or services.

What do economics graduates do?

Most economics graduates seek employment right after graduating. One out of five will go into further study, while a great number would find themselves employed within six months of graduation. The reason why they are so highly employable is because an economic graduate is equipped with both numerical and analytical tools that are highly valued in any company. They are trained problem solvers, and so they are usually assigned into positions that are of prime importance to the success of a business or an organization – analysts, investors, advisers, are just among the many highly esteemed jobs that an economics degree can get you.

Why take it up?

Anyone who is numerically inclined can excel in this course, however it is not a definite requirement. It calls for people who are goal driven, motivated by challenges, and are critical thinkers. Many younger people might get intimidated by the course, but economics can really be both fun and rewarding. A lot of economics graduates also work on social policies, and careers that truly make a difference.  Economics brings analysis to the most practical of situations and can be very useful to a young and aspiring career girl. However, just as it is with any other field of study, if you don’t take the lessons to heart and put in the hard work, you will struggle.
