The Fearne effect: a passion for summer fashion
Sometimes we see Fearne Cotton rushing from fashion shows to DJ events to her Radio 1 programme to telly presenting gigs, and think, “Give yourself a breather every once in a while, Fearne.”
But with restless schedules comes restless minds, and Fearne’s ceaseless productivity is giving us some of the finest high street fashion we’ve seen in years.
With 12 clothing lines under her belt (all with the help of fashion retail outlet Very), Fearne has become as well known in the style game as she is for her Radio 1 show.
The opening of her SS15 catwalk show, for example, was star-studded, featuring some of the world’s A-list celebs and fellow fashion designers. Anna Wintour, Alexa Chung, Jo Wood and many more lined the red carpets waiting to see the fruits of her newest collection.
Discussing her inspiration, Fearne said, “I usually just make lots of different collages of people I love so Penelope tree and Bianca Jagger and people from that decade that embody the amazing 60s’/70s’ rock and roll vibe.
“Then I start to collage lots of imagery from the internet, magazine and books or just see things when I’m out and about. If I see someone with great style I’ll take mental images when I’m out then try and get something down on paper when I get home.”
Indeed, there’s no escaping that inimitable Fearne feeling in her designs. Married to rocker Jesse Wood, her patterns ooze with a rock ‘n’ roll chic combined with casualness. They’re perfect for nights on the tiles, weekends at muddy festivals and a chilled day out.
As you can probably tell, we’ve become a bit obsessed with her. So, let’s show you some of our favourite designs from her upcoming collection.
Effortless chic
This navy blue number has the type of colourful patterns that will brighten up any room. A sleek dress that accentuates an hourglass figure, it’s got summery vibes written all over it. Combine it with a leather jacket and some Doc Martens for that full rocker chic look.
The slinky 70s
Providing a counterpoint to the bright colours of the summer, this all-in-one playsuit is filled with the stylish understatement of black on white. Giving off a 70s vibe, it’s another of Fearne’s collection that will show off your slim line figure with subtlety.
Twiggy would be proud
The swinging 60s is back in style, with less dodgy Austin Powers impressions and more call backs to the look of Twiggy and the Beatles.
Fearne is clearly inspired by the 60s, as this retro pastiche dress shows. It feels like it could have been worn at Woodstock by a flower-in-her-hair hippy swaying to Hendrix. But the cross-stitched centrepiece of the work gives the piece a delightful modern edge.
Full-on glamour
We’re in 60s’ heaven with this mustard yellow dress. The heavenly scent of Mad Men emanates from this – they might as well put Christina Hendricks in the thing and be done with it.
Glamour, rock chic and retro styling – they’re all available on the Very site. And we can’t wait to see what else Fearne has in store for us in the future.
