Tips for Maintaining a Healthy Relationship
You married the love of your life, had beautiful children, and now you find that something’s missing. You no longer cuddle together on the couch or laugh over silly things. In fact, you now spend more time apart than together. It happens. So what do you do now to get back to a healthy relationship?
Life After Children
After having a few children, many couples find that they travel separate paths. The mother spends all of her time caring for the children and the father spends his time on his own. This is common in many relationships after children come into the picture. The good news is that you can reunite and become intimate again.
Rekindle Your Love
It’s a natural instinct for women to protect and nurture their babies. There’s nothing wrong with it. However, you have to remember that your spouse is also important and needs your time to feel content. Thankfully, there are several ways to rekindle your love and bring back the feelings of yesterday. Have your parents, watch the kids for the weekend and take a mini vacation. You can travel to the Bahamas and wear a sexy bathing suit. There are so many types of bikinis for women. Go online and find one that you like and make it a surprise for the trip.
Keep the Love Alive
Life after children doesn’t mean that you forget about your spouse. They need attention, too. While your days are busy, make an extra effort to make time. A Friday or Saturday night, after the children go to bed, provides a fantastic opportunity to have a candlelight dinner for two. Dim the lights, put on soft music and laugh the night away.
Look Your Best
Sometimes the love between couples temporarily disappears simply due to a lack of interest. You have demands with the children and, at the end of the day, you’re tired. To compound the problem, many stay at home moms don’t feel the need to fix themselves up. They stop wearing makeup and their wardrobe consists of a pair of sweats or yoga pants and a tee. If you want to capture your partner’s attention, fix yourself up. Putting on a pair of jeans that conform to your body, styling your hair and wearing light makeup will inspire hugs and kisses.
Show an Interest
During the early years of motherhood, many fathers feel left out of the bonding and find other areas of interest. They may take up fishing, bowling or simply hang out with their friends. A great way to regain closeness is to take an interest in what your spouse enjoys. If it’s bowling, ask to join a mixed league together. If your partner loves sports, buy tickets for the game and attend it together.
Therapy
In some cases, all of your attempts may fall flat and you’ll have the same end result: loneliness. You can try seeing a marriage counselor to bring you back to the point of your younger loving days. This can sometimes work as an initial start to rebuilding the relationship. Remembering why you married and had children can sometimes ignite the sparks of yesterday.
Moving on Apart
However, not all relationships will end happily. Sometimes, despite all your efforts there’s simply nothing to salvage. Unfortunately, this is when you need to make a difficult decision for the benefit of your health and happiness. You can try a separation for a few months first, and then if there’s no move towards returning home, file for a divorce.
Healthy relationships take love and devotion to make it through all the phases of marriage with children. You should be able to laugh together and cry together.
