Riding a bike is basically the new black. Where once it was the domain of so called ‘lycra lizards,’ it’s now part of the cool set activity de rigeur that you own a bike and know how to use it. I am a huuuuge fan of cycling and have been riding a bike for years now, both as a means to get around and also for exercise and recreation. There’s nothing easier than hopping on your bike and speeding past all of the vehicle-bound commuters as you fly into work. You also arrive refreshed and buzzing from all the endorphins and exercise, so I consider that a win-win! Apart from loving cycling, I’m also a bit of a gadget enthusiast, so I figured why not combine my love of cycling with my extreme love of gadgetry and give you a list of my top five cycling gadgets to really rock your ride? These are blazing a trail through my heart (and wallet) right now, so dig in and see what you like.

Wireless Bike Turn Signal
This is a super cool innovation that allows you to show people when you’re turning. It has really bright LED lights and has a loud beep that comes out when you’re making a turn. You use a controller on your handlebars and you also have a hazard mode, in addition to your left and right turns.
-
Hammerhead
This super cool device sits on your bike handle bars and gives you turn-by-turn navigation which is guided by your GPS on your phone. It also works with popular cycling apps like Strava and MapMyRide (both of which I highly recommend you install, if you don’t have them already). This would be perfect for trying to find your mate’s party or when you’re late heading to that job interview in the city.

Siva Cycle Atom
Things I hate: Rude people, badly made jumpers, low battery on my phone. Thanks to the Siva Cycle Atom, you can now channel some of that awesome leg power into phone power! Charge anything via a USB thanks to this portable generator which attached to your bike axle. YES. PLEASE. They should set these up on the bikes in the Tour de France 2016 and power all of the lights to guide the course!!
-
bikeSpike
Secure your bike with GPS and your phone. Whoop! Track your bike, set up safe zones! It’s awesome for seeing if someone is tampering with your prize steed, as well. Great if you have a prize piece of bike, not so good if your bike is a bit of a wreck. Worth investing in, though.
-
Scosche boomBOTTLE
A wireless Bluetooth speaker that works for your bike. It sits in a water bottle cage and is splash proof, so it is perfect for those puddles and wet days. Cruise in style and with a range of colour choices, it’s possible to match your bike, to your speaker, to your outfit!
-
ICEdot Crash Sensor
A bit of fear-mongering here, but worthwhile. This thing sends an alert to your contacts if you’re in an accident! Heaven forbid that happens, but it’s worth having if you ride in a place money loans like London or Melbourne where accidents are sadly more common than they should be.
-
Helios Bars
Cool handlebars with lights, turning, sensors and the whole works. Great for showboating!
-
Revolights
Keep up the showboating with these LED wheel-mounted beauties. They light up and ensure that you have 360 illumination. Great for increasing your visibility.
-
Hövding
This thing is pretty damn cool. It’s an inflatable helmet that works kinda like an airbag for your head. When it detects a crash it automatically inflates to protect your neck. And your head. Only kicker is that it’s a one-trick pony. It goes off? You gotta reinvest. Good thing is, you’ll be alive to do so, thanks to the Hövding.
-
Rubbee Drive
Tired? Good thing you got that Rubbee Drive hooked up. It drives your bike’s rear wheel and gives motorised acceleration for a while. Rest them legs!
I hope something on this list tickles your fancy! Happy and safe cycling.
